In depth

AionLabs: Aion-2.0 is a text model from AionLabs, released on 23 February 2026. Anthropic: Claude Opus 4.5 is a text model from Anthropic, released on 24 November 2025. Both are served through api14 as chat models with text output, so from a caller's point of view they sit in the same slot in your code.

The two differ most in context and input handling. Claude Opus 4.5 accepts a larger context window (200000 tokens against 131072 for Aion-2.0), and it takes file, image and text as input, while Aion-2.0 takes text only. On structured output, Claude Opus 4.5 is the one that supports it. Both expose reasoning controls, so neither has a clear edge there. Aion-2.0 is the cheaper of the two on both input and output, so the trade is roughly: pay less per token with Aion-2.0, or get the longer context and the extra input modalities with Claude Opus 4.5.

For practical selection, reach for Aion-2.0 when your workload is text in, text out, fits comfortably inside 131072 tokens, and cost per token matters, which covers a lot of high volume generation, summarisation and classification work. Reach for Claude Opus 4.5 when you need to pass images or files alongside the prompt, when you need structured outputs, or when the prompt plus retrieved context is long enough that 131072 tokens is tight. If your task is plain text and short, the cheaper option is usually the sensible default, and you can move up only when a specific request needs the larger window or the extra modalities.

Calling either model through api14 works the same way, because the API is OpenAI compatible. You point your client at the api14 base URL, send a request to the chat completions endpoint, and set the model field to either "aion-labs/aion-2.0" or "anthropic/claude-opus-4.5". Everything else in the request body stays as you already write it. Switching between the two is a one line change to that model id, so you can build against one and compare against the other without touching your request shape or your response parsing.

There are still cases where the more expensive model is the right call even for text only work. If a single request needs more than 131072 tokens of context, Aion-2.0 cannot hold it, and Claude Opus 4.5 can. Likewise, if you need structured outputs or you want to send an image or a file as part of the prompt, Aion-2.0 does not cover that, so Claude Opus 4.5 is the better pick despite costing more. Outside those situations, the cheaper model is usually enough.

Switch with one string

Both models use the same endpoint and request shape. Change the model value from "aion-labs/aion-2.0" to "anthropic/claude-opus-4.5" and prompts, streaming and tools keep working.
