AionLabs: Aion-2.0 vs Venice: Uncensored
A side-by-side comparison of AionLabs: Aion-2.0 ($2.80 / 1M tokens) and Venice: Uncensored ($0.70 / 1M tokens) using current USD prices and capabilities from the api14 catalog. Both run through the same OpenAI-compatible API.

In depth
AionLabs: Aion-2.0 is a text model from AionLabs, released on 2026-02-23. Venice: Uncensored is a text model from Venice, released on 2025-07-09. Both are served through api14 as chat models with text input and text output, so at the surface level they look interchangeable. The differences show up in what each one supports and in how they are priced.
The two models are close on context length. Aion-2.0 offers 131072 tokens and Venice: Uncensored offers 128000, which is not a meaningful gap for most workloads, so treat them as roughly equal there. Neither model accepts images or audio, and neither produces anything other than text. Where they diverge is in the parameter surface. Aion-2.0 supports tools and tool_choice, plus reasoning and include_reasoning, along with temperature, top_p, max_tokens and response_format. Venice: Uncensored supports temperature, top_p, top_k, max_tokens, stop, frequency_penalty, presence_penalty and response_format, but no tool calling and no reasoning controls. So if your application needs function calling or a visible reasoning pass, only Aion-2.0 gives you that. On price, Venice: Uncensored is the cheaper of the two on both input and output.
For practical selection, reach for Aion-2.0 when the task involves agent style loops, structured tool calls, or problems where an explicit reasoning step helps, such as multi step planning, code changes that touch several files, or extraction pipelines that call out to functions. Reach for Venice: Uncensored when you want a straightforward text generation endpoint at a lower cost, for example bulk summarization, rewriting, classification, or long form drafting where you control the prompt and do not need the model to call anything. The penalty parameters it exposes (frequency_penalty, presence_penalty, top_k, stop) also give you finer control over repetition and stopping behavior, which is useful for creative or high volume generation.
Calling either one through api14 works the same way, because the gateway speaks the OpenAI chat completions format. You point your client at the api14 base URL, send your messages array, and set the model field to either "aion-labs/aion-2.0" or "cognitivecomputations/dolphin-mistral-24b-venice-edition". Everything else in the request body stays as you already write it. To move from one model to the other, change only that model id string. Keep in mind that parameters are not universal: if you send tools or reasoning to Venice: Uncensored it will not honor them, and if you send top_k or presence_penalty to Aion-2.0 it will not honor those. Build your request payload around the parameters the chosen model actually lists.
There are still cases where Venice: Uncensored is the better pick even when tools are not required. If your workload is high volume and cost sensitive, its lower input and output pricing makes it the sensible default, and the extra sampling controls can help you keep outputs varied or tightly bounded. Aion-2.0 earns its place when the task genuinely needs tool calls or a reasoning mode; otherwise the cheaper model will usually get you the same text result.
Switch with one string
Both models use the same endpoint and request shape. Change the model value from "aion-labs/aion-2.0" to "cognitivecomputations/dolphin-mistral-24b-venice-edition" and prompts, streaming and tools keep working.
