AionLabs: Aion-2.0 vs Cohere: Command A+

A side-by-side comparison of AionLabs: Aion-2.0 ($2.80 / 1M tokens) and Cohere: Command A+ ($1.05 / 1M tokens) using current USD prices and capabilities from the api14 catalog. Both run through the same OpenAI-compatible API.

Key differences

  • Cohere: Command A+ is 63% cheaper on input tokens.
  • Cohere: Command A+ is 6% cheaper on output tokens.
  • Cohere: Command A+ reads 1.5× more context (192,000 tokens).
  • Only Cohere: Command A+ supports structured JSON output.
  • A request with 1,000 input and 500 output tokens costs $0.00560 with AionLabs: Aion-2.0 and $0.00367 with Cohere: Command A+.

In depth

AionLabs: Aion-2.0 is a text model from AionLabs, released on 2026-02-23. Cohere: Command A+ is a text model from Cohere, released on 2026-09-22. Both sit in the text category and both are served through api14, so the choice between them comes down to capability fit rather than availability.

The clearest split is context and modality. Command A+ carries a larger context window at 192000 tokens against 131072 for Aion-2.0, and it accepts image input alongside text, while Aion-2.0 takes text only. Both return text. On parameters the two overlap on the basics you would expect, including temperature, top_p, max_tokens, response_format, tools and reasoning controls. Command A+ goes further with frequency_penalty, presence_penalty, seed, stop, top_k and structured_outputs. Structured output support is listed only for Command A+, so if you need the model to emit a schema you can rely on, that is the side to look at. Neither model is flagged as the only one supporting tools or reasoning, so treat those as roughly comparable rather than a deciding factor.

For day to day work, pick based on what you are feeding in and how much of it. If your prompts are long documents, large codebases, or extended conversation history, the bigger window on Command A+ gives you more room before you have to chunk or summarise. If you need to pass screenshots, diagrams or scanned pages alongside a question, Command A+ is the only one of the two that accepts images. Aion-2.0 remains a reasonable default for straight text generation, chat and tool calling where the input fits comfortably inside 131072 tokens and you do not need structured outputs. Command A+ is also the cheaper of the two on both input and output, so when the task fits both models, cost leans toward Cohere.

Calling either one through api14 uses the same OpenAI-compatible surface. You point your client at the api14 base URL, send your request to the chat completions endpoint with your api14 key, and set the model field. The only change between the two is that string: use "aion-labs/aion-2.0" for AionLabs and "cohere/command-a-plus" for Cohere. Messages, roles and the usual request body stay the same, so you can swap the id in a config value or environment variable and compare outputs without rewriting your integration. Parameters that a given model does not list, such as seed or top_k on Aion-2.0, should simply be left out of the request for that model.

There are still cases where Aion-2.0 is the better pick. If you have already tuned prompts and evaluation around its behaviour, or you want to stay with the AionLabs line for consistency across a pipeline, there is no capability gap in the facts here that forces a move. The two are close enough on tools and reasoning that switching purely for those would not be justified. Choose Command A+ when you need the longer context, image input, structured outputs or the lower price, and stay with Aion-2.0 when your inputs are text and fit the smaller window.

Switch with one string

Both models use the same endpoint and request shape. Change the model value from "aion-labs/aion-2.0" to "cohere/command-a-plus" and prompts, streaming and tools keep working.
