AionLabs: Aion-2.0 vs DeepSeek: DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731

A side-by-side comparison of AionLabs: Aion-2.0 ($2.80 / 1M tokens) and DeepSeek: DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 ($0.15 / 1M tokens) using current USD prices and capabilities from the api14 catalog. Both run through the same OpenAI-compatible API.

In depth

AionLabs: Aion-2.0 is a text model from AionLabs, released on 2026-02-23. DeepSeek: DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 is a text model from DeepSeek, released on 2026-07-31. Both are served through api14 as chat models with text input and text output, so neither one accepts images, audio or other non-text input, and neither produces anything but text. The choice between them comes down to context size, parameter surface and price rather than to a difference in modality.

The clearest gap is context length. Aion-2.0 carries 131,072 tokens, while DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 carries 1,048,576 tokens, so the DeepSeek model is the one with the bigger context by a wide margin. DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 also exposes a much broader set of sampling and decoding parameters, including frequency_penalty, presence_penalty, logit_bias, logprobs, top_logprobs, min_p, top_a, top_k, seed, stop, repetition_penalty, reasoning_effort, parallel_tool_calls and structured_outputs. Aion-2.0 supports a smaller set: include_reasoning, max_tokens, reasoning, response_format, temperature, tool_choice, tools and top_p. Structured output support is listed only for the DeepSeek model. Both support tools and reasoning, so neither has an exclusive claim there. On price, the DeepSeek model is the cheaper of the two for both input and output.

For most day to day work, DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 is the safer default. If you are feeding long documents, large codebases, long transcripts or accumulated agent history into a single call, its context window means far less truncation and fewer retrieval workarounds. If you need structured outputs, logprobs, seeds for reproducible sampling, or fine control over penalties and top_k style decoding, those parameters exist only on the DeepSeek side. Aion-2.0 remains a reasonable pick when your prompts fit comfortably inside 131,072 tokens and you want a simpler parameter surface, or when you have already tuned prompts and tool schemas against it and see no reason to move. Because it is the more expensive option on both input and output, there is little reason to choose it purely on cost.

Calling either model through api14 works the same way, because the gateway speaks the OpenAI-compatible chat completions format. You point your client at the api14 base URL, send your key, and set the model field. To use AionLabs, set the model id to "aion-labs/aion-2.0". To use DeepSeek, set it to "deepseek/deepseek-v4-flash-0731". Everything else in the request body, the messages array, the tools array, temperature and max_tokens, keeps the same shape. Switching between the two is a one line change to the model id, so you can route different requests to different models inside the same application without maintaining two clients.

One case where Aion-2.0 is still the better pick is when a workload is already validated against it and fits its context. If your prompts, tool definitions and response_format usage have been tested on Aion-2.0 and stay well under 131,072 tokens, moving to the DeepSeek model gains you nothing you need, and the extra parameters are only useful if you actually set them. Conversely, if you need the larger context, structured outputs, logprobs or seed control, DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 is the model to call, and it is also the cheaper one on both input and output.

Switch with one string

Both models use the same endpoint and request shape. Change the model value from "aion-labs/aion-2.0" to "deepseek/deepseek-v4-flash-0731" and prompts, streaming and tools keep working.
