Google: Gemini 2.5 Pro is a text model made by Google. Z.ai: GLM 5.3 Prime is a text model made by Z.ai. Both are served through api14 as chat models behind an OpenAI compatible endpoint, so from an integration point of view they are the same kind of object with a different model id. Google released Gemini 2.5 Pro on 2025-06-17, while Z.ai released GLM 5.3 Prime on 2026-09-23.
The two differ far more on input than on output. Gemini 2.5 Pro accepts text, image, file, audio and video as input and returns text. GLM 5.3 Prime accepts text only and returns text. Their context windows are close enough that the difference is not worth deciding on, roughly one million tokens on each side. Structured output is the other clear split: Gemini 2.5 Pro supports structured outputs, and the parameter list reflects that with response_format and structured_outputs, while GLM 5.3 Prime does not list structured outputs as a supported parameter. Tool use is available on both. Both expose reasoning controls through include_reasoning and reasoning, and GLM 5.3 Prime goes further with reasoning_effort. GLM 5.3 Prime also supports sampling and inspection parameters that Gemini 2.5 Pro does not: frequency_penalty, presence_penalty, stop, top_k, logprobs and top_logprobs. On price, Gemini 2.5 Pro is the cheaper side for input, GLM 5.3 Prime is the cheaper side for output, so the better deal depends on the ratio of prompt tokens to completion tokens in your workload.
For a developer choosing between them, the decision usually comes down to what goes into the prompt. If you need to send screenshots, PDFs, audio or video alongside the text, Gemini 2.5 Pro is the one that can take those inputs; GLM 5.3 Prime cannot. If you need the reply to conform to a schema you can parse, Gemini 2.5 Pro supports structured outputs and GLM 5.3 Prime does not, which matters for extraction and classification pipelines. If your work is plain text in, plain text out, and you want finer control over sampling, penalties, stop sequences, top_k or token level log probabilities, GLM 5.3 Prime gives you those knobs. Long outputs also favor GLM 5.3 Prime on cost, since output is its cheaper side, while long inputs favor Gemini 2.5 Pro.
Calling either model through api14 works the same way. Both are reached through the OpenAI compatible API, so you point your existing OpenAI client or SDK at the api14 base URL with your api14 key, and the only thing that changes between the two is the model id string. Set model to "google/gemini-2.5-pro" for Gemini 2.5 Pro and to "z-ai/glm-5.3-prime" for GLM 5.3 Prime. Messages, roles and the response shape stay the same, so a switch is a one line change and you can compare them on the same prompts without rewriting your call site. The caveat is parameters: a request that uses structured_outputs will not carry over to GLM 5.3 Prime, and a request that uses top_k or logprobs will not carry over to Gemini 2.5 Pro, so keep those settings behind a per model branch.
There are still cases where the less obvious model wins. If the task is text only and produces very long answers, GLM 5.3 Prime is the better pick on cost, and its extra sampling controls help when you are tuning tone, repetition or creativity over many runs. Conversely, a text only task that needs schema valid JSON output should still go to Gemini 2.5 Pro, because GLM 5.3 Prime does not support structured outputs.
